New PA Residents: How to Transfer Your Driver's License and Vehicle

Welcome to Pennsylvania! As a new resident, you need to transfer your out-of-state driver's license and vehicle registration to PA within 60 days. Here's how:

Steps to Transfer Your Driver's License:

1. Visit a PennDOT Driver License Center: Find your nearest center using the PennDOT website.

2. Bring Required Documents:

   • Your current out-of-state driver's license

   • Proof of identity (e.g., U.S. Passport, Birth Certificate)

   • Proof of PA residency (e.g., utility bill, lease agreement)

   • Social Security Card

3. Pass Vision Screening: You will need to pass a vision test at the center.

4. Submit Application and Pay Fees: Complete the application form (DL-180R) and pay the required fee.

5. Receive Your Temporary License: You'll get a temporary driver's license until your official one arrives by mail.

Steps to Transfer Your Vehicle Registration:

1. Visit a Northeast Title & Tag location near you: Find your nearest location here.

2. Bring Required Documents:

   • Out-of-state vehicle title (if your vehicle is financed, we must obtain your title from the lienholder. Submit your request here!)

   • Proof of PA insurance (If you do not have PA Insurance, get a FREE quote here)

   • Vehicle identification number (VIN) tracing or bring the vehicle with you for VIN verification

   • Proof of identity

3. Pay Fees: Pay the necessary title and registration fees, along with applicable sales tax.

4. Get Your PA License Plates and Registration Card: Once the paperwork is processed, you'll receive your PA plates and registration card.
