OUR Story


Northeast Title and Tag, Inc. began in 1970 when insurance executive John Roy Thompson founded an insurance agency in Clarks Summit, PA. His vision to provide quality insurance services laid the foundation for a company that would later evolve in ways he couldn't have imagined.

In the early 1990s, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) launched a pilot program, offering select messenger partners access to their database. This program allowed title and tag agencies to instantly complete motor vehicle and driver license transactions. After a rigorous selection process, John Roy Thompson was granted the opportunity to provide these services, making him one of only 11 people authorized by PennDOT at the time.

Recognizing the potential for growth, Thompson founded Northeast Title and Tag, Inc., alongside his established insurance agency. His goal was to offer a seamless combination of title, tag, and insurance services to customers. After years of dedication and hard work, he saw the business flourish.

In 1994, Thompson partnered with his daughter, Maria Thompson, and his cousin, Catherine “Kitty” O’Hara, to expand the business, opening multiple locations across Northeast Pennsylvania. When Thompson retired in 2003, his daughter Maria took over leadership, continuing the company’s legacy of growth and innovation. Under her leadership, the company expanded its services to include commercial title and tag services, in addition to its personal offerings.

In 2024, ownership passed to Joseph Thompson Grasso, ushering in a new era for Northeast Title and Tag, Inc. While continuing to build on the values established by John Roy Thompson, the company remains committed to evolving with the changing needs of its customers and the industry.
